A / SERENAD.
VALOUR.
BRITANIA, Hail thy Hero,
Thy Pride, thy greatest Glory,
No less Serene, Sweet, Modest and Benign,
Than Just and Undesigning.
Majesty with Grace Uniting
Render GEORGE almost Divine ;
Sweetness unexpress’d inviting
Makes all Hearts to Him incline.
Majesty, &c.
FORTUNE
Some Sacred Angel hov’ring
Around His Throne, the Guardian of His Safety,
From black Designs defends Him,
Vain Traytors Schemes Discov’ring.
His Heroick Actions have charm’d the Beholders,
His Soul ever Brave,
But conquers to Save
The Darling of Armies, the Wonder of Soldiers.
His, &c.
CLEMENCY
Had Heaven Greater Blessings
Below, than Glorious Empire,
And subjects Warm Affections,
As their Reward, might not unjustly claim them.
Empire on Him, Fate bestowed :
Justly He the Throne possesses,
Greatly He the Nation Blesses.
Growing Glories most amazing,
Round Him blazing
Make Him awful as a God.
Empire, &c.
VALOUR
His bright Superior Virtue,
Discerning Mind, and most exalted Genius,
Awe Foreign Powers, no less than Subject-Traytors,
And Crowns with Peace and Plenty happy Britain.
A series of blessings
BRITANIA expect ;
A Hero Commended
By Heaven befriended
For Wonders intended
With Branches descended
From Him shall Thy Throne and Thy People protect.
A Series, &c.
FORTUNE
His Mind by Fortun’s Favours not elated,
Nor by Her Frowns discourag’d,
Is truly Brave and justly merits Empire.
BRITAIN’s Chief, thy Royal State,
Can’t reward thy Merits,
Tho’ loud Fame
Make thy Name
Glaring here in ev’ry Clime,
Then Sublime
Wast it thro’ the World of Spirits,
Set not so Thy Virtue Great
All its due Inherits.
BRITAIN’s, &c.
CLEMENCY
Fear fhews a Mind degen’rate,
And Cruelty betrays the latent Coward,
But Mercy temper’d with coercive Justice,
Makes Monarchs always Amiable and Feared
Passions warm in Youth dividing,
Reasons Empire all subsiding
Their just Homage learn to pay;
Now Imperial Reason Reigning
Universal Conquest gaining
Makes Her Foes to own her Sway.
Passions, &c.
VALOUR
No gen’rous Foe withstandeth
Great GEORGE’s Matchless Virtues,
The Baser yield to His Prevailing Fortune,
And own in Ruin all their desp’rate Follies.
No Thundering Cannons in Battle affright Him,
Shril Clangors and Clashing of Arms but delight Him,
Amidst all the Pomp and the Terrors of War;
Joyful Vict’ry o’er Him hov’ring,
Smiling Claps Her Golden Wings,
He, no Wrath, no Pride discov’ring,
Mourns for that His Safety brings.
FORTUNE
His steady Throne and steadier Resolutions,
By no Attempts are ever to be Shaken,
Each Effort vain discovers more His Virtues,
And proves His Foes ae in their Views mistaken.
Seditious Scorns don’t break His Easy Peace,
His just Resolves with Judg’ment undertaken,
As the vast Globes Foundation are unshaken,
To purchase ALBIONS Happiness and Ease.
Seditious, &c.
CLEMENCY
No form of Danger ever
Cou’d Stagger any of His Resolutions,
To cogent Reasons Dictates,
And Pity as the GODS, He only Yieldeth.
Tender Compassion, lost Empress of Nature,
Triumph for ever in BRUNSWICK’s great Soul;;
Only so Sweet, and so Gentle a Creature
This Fearless and Heroick Prince can Controul.
Tender, &c.
CHORUS
Sing ye all Immortal Harmonious Powers,
Inhabiting Mountains, or Murmuring Springs,
Joyn ye that Reside in sweet Sylvian Powers,
To Honour the Bravest and Justest of KINGS.
Sing, &c.
