AN ODE ON / Her Majesty’s Birth-Day, / February the 6th 1707/8 / Written by Mr. Griffith, Servant to Her Majesty, / Sett to MUSICK by Monsieur Coursser. / And Perform’d at the Castle of Dublin.
BRitannia! From thy peaceful rest arise,
And view the Radiant Light that Gilds the Skie’s,
Heark how the Chearful birds salute the Morn,
Preparing to Sing,
Their Chorus begin
In Tuneful Notes,
And Warbling Throats
This Glorious, Glorious Day t’Adorn.
Chorus.
Let all them Celebrate with Mirth
The Hour that Great ANNA Birth.
Thro’ all thy isle let joys abound,
Let Fame Her Golden Trumpet sound,
And ANNA’s Name be Eccho’d round
With Viol and Voice
Let All Rejoice,
With Timbrels sounding on the Green;
Since Thou by Fate
Art ANNA’s Seat
That Happy and Victorious Queen.
Europa Homage pay
For this Auspicious day,
Since, Thou by British Arms,
Art freed from rude Alarms
Which, on Blenheim’s Plain opposed
The Power of Gallick Foes,
’Till the Verdant Grass was Tinetur’d with Blood,
Of Valiant Chiefs, that Stopt Swift Danube’s Flood,
The Silver Stream Stole Silent by,
Afraid to shed it’s Head,
ANd Blush’d to see so many Dye,
Which changed her White, to Red.
Perpetual Conquest Flows,
To Glad the British shore
Nor dare th’ Aspiring Foes,
Once hazard Battle more.
Chorus.
At sound of Drum
Away they fly,
And loudly cry,
the Brittons come.
The Haughty Gaul, knew Fortune wou’d decline,
If Caledonia should with Britain join,
Intestine Boyls he labour’d to maintain,
’Till Heaven at length, this UNION did ordain
To Crown with Blessings Glorious ANNA’s Reign.
Who kindly sent Great Polio to restore,
Joyful, Happy Days to Glad Hibernia’s Shore.
Grand Chorus.
Then Tune your Lyres to sweet Harmonious Lays
In Grateful Numbers, straight your Voices raise,
To Sing on Deathless Verse Immortal ANNA’s Praise.
FINIS.
